Nikon releases CaptureNX2 2.4.7

Even though the new Capture NX-D will replace NX2 soon – see my earlier article on workflow considerations and why NX-D is actually not a (good) replacement of NX2 – Nikon has still lived up to its promise to keep NX2 up to date as long as NX-D is in beta.

You can download the update from the Nikon support websites: EU / USA

Changes in v2.4.7

  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 V3, and Nikon 1 J4 has been added.
  • Auto distortion control was not applied to images captured with some cameras, and Auto Distortion in the Camera & Lens Corrections section of the Edit List palette was not displayed.
  • When RAW images captured with some cameras and saved using Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.4.5 or earlier were opened, white balance effects sometimes changed.
  • Support for Windows XP has been eliminated.

Nikon Capture NX 2.4.4 released

Nikon has released an update for their Capture NX2 image editing application.

Version 2.4.4 contains the following bugfixes and enhancements.

As always you can download the software from the Nikon support sites (EU, USA, or go to your local Nikon support site).

Windows and Macintosh versions

  • Support for RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P7800 has been added.
  • An Automatic (Underwater) option has been added to the Auto Distortion pull-down menu under Camera & Lens Corrections in the Adjust section of the Edit List.
However, the Automatic (Underwater) option is only displayed when all of the following conditions are met.
    • The image was captured with an advanced camera with interchangeable lenses that supports underwater automatic distortion control, and a lens that also supports the function.
    • The image was captured in RAW format or in JPEG format with the camera's Auto distortion control function disabled.
  • The following issues have been resolved.
    • When the slider bar was manipulated while applying settings such as Gaussian Blur, High Pass, or Colorize, flicker in the form of random blocks was sometimes displayed.

Windows version only

  • When OK in the Page Setup dialogue opened from the Print layout dialogue was clicked after changing printers using the Print button in the Print layout dialogue, only the default printer (that normally used) was named in the Printer section at top left in the Print layout dialogue.
  • "aaa..." was displayed for Artist in the File & Camera Information section of the Metadata palette. (Language versions other than the English version).
  • When a date was entered in the Date Created text box in the XMP/IPTC Information section of the Metadata palette, and the user attempted to save the image, an error was displayed and the image could not be saved. (German language version only).
  • When an image was edited using the LCH tool in the Adjust section of the Edit List, a message prompting the user to restart the application was sometimes displayed.

Nikon releases Capture NX 2.4.2 and View NX 2.7.5

Nikon today released an update for their Capture NX2 and View NX2 applications.

Both updates address an issue with D600 raw images:
  • When RAW images captured with a D600 running C firmware Ver. 1.01 at an Image area setting of DX (24×16) 1.5× and any Active D-Lighting setting other than Off were opened in Capture NX 2, a bright (whitish) diagonal line was visible. This issue has been resolved.

Nikon releases Capture NX 2.4.0

Nikon just released an update for its image editing software application Nikon Capture NX 2.

Version 2.4.0 is a “full” release, meaning you can use it to either update an existing installation or as a fresh install.

The following points have been addressed in the release:
Windows and Mac OS X
  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 J3 and Nikon 1 S1 has been added.
  • The following modifications have been made to White Balance in the Camera Settings portion of the Develop section in the Edit List palette.
    • Underwater can now be selected from New WB. However, Underwater can only be selected for RAW images captured with a camera that supports Underwater white balance.
    • Resulting colors have been corrected when Flash was selected from New WB for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 V2.
  • An issue that, in some rare cases, prevented display of some JPEG images has been resolved.
Windows only
  • Compatibility with 64- and 32-bit Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise has been added. Proper operation has been confirmed with use in desktop mode. Touch screen operations are not supported.
Mac OS X only
  • Support for high-resolution display on Macintosh computers with a built-in Retina display has been added. However, this applies only to image display in the image window.

You can download the new version from the Nikon support sites: EU/USA (notice that, as seems to have become the norm for them, the USA site doesn't appear to be as accurate in their description of the update as the European site…)

  • Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon 1 J2 (now shipping) and Coolpix P7700 has been added.

Nikon updates Capture NX2 and NEF Codec to support the D3200

The latest updates to Nikon Capture NX2 (v2.3.2) and the NEF codec (v1.14.0) now have support for the new D3200 camera.

Version 2.3.2 of Capture NX2 also contains the following fixes:
  • (Windows version): when images captured with the camera’s Auto distortion control function enabled were opened or edited, Capture NX 2 sometimes quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved.
  • (Mac version): when NEF files edited using the unsharp mask function and then saved were later opened, or copied and opened, the images sometimes appeared corrupted. This issue has been resolved.

You can download version 2.3.2 of Capture NX2 from your local support site, e.g., Europe, US.

The NEF Codec enables Windows Explorer and certain applications to view NEFs captured with a range of Nikon cameras and can be downloaded from this page.
Note: the latest version of the NEF codec still does not support the D800 or D800E camera (the D4 is supported though)
