Firmware update 2.0.5 for the Canon EOS 7D

Canon has just released a firmware update for their EOS 7D camera. Firmware version 2.0.5 just contains one fix, a fix for “a phenomenon in which the image files cannot be transferred using the FTP protocol via USB cable after the EOS 7D camera has established a wireless connection to the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5 (A/B/C/D).”

Firmware update 2.0.3 for Canon EOS 7D

Today, Canon released a firmware update for their EOS 7D camera.

Firmware version 2.0.3 incorporates the following fixes:

• Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera stops working when the auto power off setting takes effect.
• Fixes a phenomenon in which the maximum number of images that can be captured in a burst may be less than the actual number displayed in the viewfinder.
• Corrects some errors in the message displayed on the LCD screen when saving RAW images developed in the camera (these errors do not appear in the Japanese and Korean language displays).

Canon releases firmware v2.0.0 for the EOS 7D

Canon today released a new firmware update for its EOS 7D DSLR camera.

Firmware v2.0.0 has the following fixes and improvements/new functionality:

1. Improves the maximum burst in continuous shooting:
   JPEG Large/Fine: About 94 (126) bursts^*1 → About 110 (130) bursts^*2
   RAW: About 15 (15) bursts^*1 → About 23 (25) bursts^*2
   RAW+JPEG Large/Fine: About 6 (6) bursts^*1 → About 17 (17) bursts^{*2
   *1} The figures are based on Canon's testing standards (ISO 100 and Standard Picture Style) using a 4 GB card. The figures in parentheses indicate the number of shots that can be taken with an Ultra DMA (UDMA) 4-GB card, based on Canon's testing standards.

5. Adds a Quick Control function during image playback.
6. Adds a rating function.
7. Adds a JPEG resize function.
8. Adds an auto recording level manual adjustment function.
9. Adds a function to freely set text for file names.
10. Adds a function to make time zone settings.
11. Increases the screen scrolling speed when magnifying images.
12. Fixes a phenomenon where a slow shutter speed may result when an external flash is used to fire intermittent, consecutive flashes.
13. Corrects the colour space information in the Exif file for movies.

Firmware update for Canon 7D adds functionality

Canon has announced a firmware update for its EOS 7D camera adding a couple of very nice features to existing cameras.

The new features include:

• An increase of the maximum number of burst images taken in the RAW file format from 15 to 25 frames. When shooting in RAW+JPG, the maximum is now 17 and with JPG-only, 125.
• The ability to process RAW image files directly in the camera. This includes adjustment of exposure compensation, white balance, picture style, noise reduction at high ISO speeds, distortion correction, and other processing parameters. The thus processed RAW files will be saved as a separate JPG file, keeping the original intact.
• Ability to rate images in-camera.
• Ability to resize JPG files in-camera.
• Faster scrolling of zoomed-in images.
• An option to set a maximum ISO setting in ISO Auto mode.
• Fine adjustment of the audio level (up to 64 levels) prior to video recording.
• Support for the new optional GPS Receiver GP-E2.
• Customisation of the first four characters of the image file name, useful to e.g., store your initials.

The new firmware is to be released in August and can then be obtained from the Canon website.
